State housing evictions lead to homelessness and cost everyone more

The National Party wants unruly tenants kicked out of Kāinga Ora housing, provided they've been warned, to show bad behaviour is unacceptable.

The state housing agency has a sustaining tenancies model, and has not booted anyone out in more than three years.

University of Otago associate professor of public health Nevil Pierse told Māni Dunlop kicking such tenants out would make them homeless, which costs everyone more in the short and long term.
