Fiji police say they are probing brutality complaints

The Fiji police say they are already investigating allegations of police brutality in the Nadarivatu area in western Fiji.

A Fiji lawyer Aman Ravindra-Singh said a group of young men were tortured by police last month at the Nadarivatu Community Police Post.

He's gathering more evidence before lodging a complaint with police in coming days.

According to Fiji Village, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair said the police Internal Affairs Unit was investigating two reports lodged at the Tavua Police Station by the victims.

He told the website the Commissioner has given assurances all complaints made against police officers will be throughly investigated and officers will be charged if they've committed a crime.
