The criminal court in New Caledonia has given a ten-year jail sentence to a man found guilty of murder during the unrest of 2016 in St Louis.

Iveric Gnibekan was convicted for shooting Ramon Noraro who was a fugitive at the time.
The court also found him guilty of attempted murder for shooting and injuring a man running away from the scene, but he was acquitted of second attempted murder charge.
Media reports said the prosecution wanted him to be imprisoned for 20 years.
Gnibekan said he acted in legitimate defence after disturbances within the village of St Louis near where there had been weeks of clashes with police.
Several others, including minors, have been sent to prison for crimes committed during the unrest.
