A police van and car were damaged in a fire in Christchurch early today, and police are treating the incident as suspicious.
The van was discovered to be on fire at about 4am in a secure car yard at the New Brighton Police Station.
The blaze also damaged a police car parked next to the van, and both have been scorched "beyond repair", the Police said, in a statement.
The station was evacuated after the alarm was raised, while fire crews put out the fire.
No one was hurt, and there was no damage to the police station, which has now reopened.
The yard is covered by CCTV camera, and police plan to speak to witnesses. Fire investigators are also working at the scene today.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area.
