The chair of the Henderson Massey Local Board in West Auckland says some parts of the city may have to be relocated to avoid future flooding.

Chris Carter says it will be one of the major issues in coming days, and suggested some home owners may need to be bought out of their properties to help them relocate somewhere safer.

He says many houses experienced their second flooding event in 18 months, and it's evident more will follow.

Carter spoke to Kim Hill.
