The Green Party has accused the police of having double standards when it comes to investigating complaints about the interception of private communication.

A summary has been released of the police investigation into the Government Communications Security Bureau's illegal surveillance of internet entrepreneur and Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom.

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman said the summary shows the bureau did not fully co-operate with the police investigation, and that police themselves put little effort into carrying it out.

Dr Norman compared it to the vigorous investigation of a cameraman who recorded the so-called "teapot tape" of Prime Minister John Key's conversation with ACT MP John Banks in 2011.

He spoke to Geoff Robinson of Morning Report this morning.
