It's kicking off the official tender process with a campaign to get locals to support the bid.

Fiji media report the FRU has received tender documents containing strict criteria which need to be met including the need to get the support of the people of Fiji.

FRU Chief Executive John O'Connor said he is confident the union will be able to meet them.

The 'Fiji for 7s' task team includes the former Argentina Rugby Union CEO Greg Peters.

Fiji is bidding for a four-year contract starting in the 2019--2020 season.

A six week campaign to win local support for the bid featuring Fiji rugby legend Waisale Serevi begins tomorrow.

Those signing up have a chance to win a trip to the Hong Kong Sevens.
