Fiji police have arrested a secondary school student for allegedly punching a policeman at a bus station on Thursday.

According to police, the officer had advised the student to tuck his shirt in but the student refused and allegedly swore at the policeman.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the officer approached the student who then turned and allegedly punched him twice on his face.

The alleged incident drew a large crowd to the bus depot area in Labasa.

More police officers arrived and took the student away to the station where he was questioned.

Ms Naisoro says the student's parents were called to the police station.

Investigations are continuing.

Naisoro said police had also received reports of scuffles between students of different schools in Labasa and has warned students to refrain from causing violence.

Parents have also been asked to talk and counsel their children about such issues which they should refrain from.
