A person is in hospital after what the police say is a serious assault in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to Warrington Street about 3.30am after reports of several people fighting.
The police said it appeared to be a serious assault, but the person's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Part of the street was cordoned off while the scene was examined.
