Seventeen-year-old arrested for riverbank assault

A 17-year-old man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint by the river in Lower Hutt last week.

The police said the woman in her 30s was taking her lunchbreak at Melling by the Hutt River when she was attacked.

They said she was threatened with a knife, kicked in the head and stomped on.

The arrested man will appear in the Lower Hutt District Court tomorrow on charges including sexual violation and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
