A scientist from Papua New Guinea has become the first Pacific scientist to be awarded a prestigious global science award.
Moses Laman of PNG's Institute of Medical Research has received the award from The Third World Academy of Science.
Dr Laman says he was very surprised to get the award as he knew there was a lot of competition.
He says he feels honoured to be the first Pacific scientist to win.
"For the Pacific region there has been none, mainly because of the stiff competition and most of the time it is the scientifically advanced countries like India and China, Thailand and Malaysia who usually get those awards but for us in the Pacific it is the first time."
