McCullum won't change attacking approach

13:01 pm on 31 January 2015

Despite the runs drying up in his past few innings, there will be no change of approach from Black Caps captain and one day opener Brendon McCullum as the side puts the final touches to its World Cup preparations.

The opening partnership remains a concern with Martin Guptill struggling, and while McCullum scored a century and a half century in the first two matches, he had failed to get past 30 in his last four.

Black Caps batting coach Craig McMillan says McCullum would not be changing his approach in the upcoming match or at the world cup.

"Brendon's that X-factor player at the top of the order who can take the game away from the opposition so that's how we want him to play."

"He's missed out but we're very specific with the roles for players and Brendon knows this and has done it really well over a period of time, so no dramas there."

McMillan says people miss out occasionally but the good thing in this series is that all the batters have got a score and when some guys have missed out, which inevitably happens over a series, other guys have picked up the slack.

The only player unavailable for the final Sri Lanka match was fast bowler Adam Milne who was still recovering from a side strain.

But Milne is bowling now and he is fit for selection on Saturday against Pakistan, also in Wellington.

New Zealand have two more official one dayers, both against Pakistan, before their World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on Feburary 14th.
