Former All Black Nehe Milner-Skudder is joining the Highlanders for the revamped Super Rugby competition.
The 13-test winger signed a three-year deal with French club Toulon late last year but a shoulder injury scuppered those plans.
Milner-Skudder will join the Highlanders next week when the squad returns to training but won't be available to play when the season resumes next month, as he continues to recover from the injury.
Milner-Skudder, who has played 50 games for Manawatu and 35 for the Hurricanes, has had shoulder problems through out his career.
The Highlanders have several outside back injuries in Tevita Nabura, Thomas Umaga Jensen and Connor Garden Bachop making Milner-Skudder's inclusion possible.
The 29-year-old would also play for the Highlanders in 2021.
"I've heard some unreal things about the Club and the culture at the Highlanders. I'm really looking forward to the move to Dunedin and embracing everything it has to offer," he said.
I'm excited for this new opportunity and can't wait to get into some mahi with the boys and lace up the boots for the Highlanders."
Highlanders coach, Aaron Mauger, said Milner-Skudder's style of play "suits the way the Highlanders play the game, especially under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium."
