A South Auckland kura kaupapa has ended its school year for seniors almost three weeks early because of repeated absences.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori a Rohe o Māngere told parents in a panui last week the kura had seen a significant decline in engagement from Year 13 students and the term would end on 29 November.

The panui said the ten Year 13 students would no longer be attending Wiki Hakinakina, a week-long sports tournament in Christchurch, and payments for the trip would be refunded.

RNZ has reached out to the school for comment.
