Artists pledge to support Lorde's Israel decision

20:28 pm on 6 January 2018

More than 100 actors, directors, artists, writers and musicians have signed a public letter of support for Lorde over her decision not to perform in Israel.

The signatories to the letter, published in the Guardian, include film director Ken Loach, musicians Brian Eno and Roger Waters, and actors Mark Ruffalo, Julie Christie and Viggo Mortensen.

Referring to a full-page advertisement in the Washington Post, in which Lorde was branded a bigot, they say they support her right to take a stand.

They also say they deplore the bullying tactics being used to defend injustice against Palestinians and to suppress an artist's freedom of conscience.
