Southern farmers are angry at the new rules around freshwater management, calling them unworkable. Federated Farmers Southland president Geoffrey Young has publicly called on farmers to ignore the rules and not to apply for consents. West Otago dairy farmer Bruce Eades has invited the Minister for the Environment David Parker to come to his farm to see how the new regulations will impact him. Mr Eades says if the government wants to make radical change it needs to stagger the reform and not lump it on farmers in one go. He believes it has gone too hard too soon leaving farmers high and dry. Bruce spoke to our reporter Riley Kennedy about his concerns while he was out on the farm.
