Cycling bureaucrat tests positive for drugs

The highest body in Danish cycling has been left red-faced after a board member tested positive for banned substances following a veterans race.

The Danish Cycling Federation says Soren Svenningsen was tested after the race on June 30 and showed traces of testosterone and two kinds of glucocorticoids.

Svenningsen will quit the DCU board and as president of Holte Cycling Club, north of Copenhagen.

In a statement, Svenningsen says he had not tried to cheat but the traces were likely linked to injections he took when treating a back injury a year ago.

DCU's main sponsor, Post Danmark, says it will not break off its sponsorship, but has requested firm action.
