Solomons forest minister Dettke ousted by caucus

14:32 pm on 1 December 2010

The ruling coalition in Solomon Islands has reportedly decided to sack the forestry minister, Bobo Dettke, three months into his term.

The Prime Minister's Press Secretary, Alfred Sasako, has told the Solomon Star that the dismissal was decided in a caucus meeting, but no reason has been given.

No replacement has been named.

The newspaper says the move may be linked to Mr Dettke's decision to seize a ship carrying logs.

But a magistrate over-ruled the ministerial order and allowed the ship to continue to its destination to Asia.

Mr Dettke owns a logging company, Success Company Limited.
