Organisers of the Cabramatta Nines rugby league tournament are hoping to join forces with their NRL counterparts.

30 teams spanning five continents and the Pacific competed in the 13th edition of the Cabramatta event in Sydney at the weekend.

Cabramatta 1 took out the Cup title, beating Blacktown Workers Black in the final.

American Samoa's hopes of a top four finish were dashed by Papua New Guinea but the territory didn't go home empty handed, beating the North Queensland Islanders in the Plate final.

Coach Paul Roebeck says the standard of competition gets higher every year, with teams already eying their next challenge.

"Hopefully Phuket in October - another tournament of Nines. The boys want to give it a crack so hopefully after a few phonecalls we can have a shot at Phuket on October 17th. We only got notified yesterday (Saturday) about it so hopefully we can get our team in and if we can we're definitelty in. At the prize-giving last night it was mentioned they were looking at trying to get the winner of the Cabramatta Nines into the Auckland NRL Nines in upcoming years so hopefully they can make progress there".
