Fiji PM reshuffles cabinet, Faiyaz Koya gets commerce portfolio

Fiji's prime minister has reshuffled his cabinet to include an MP who only returned to parliament last month.

Faiyaz Koya will replace Premila Kumar as the Minister for Commerce, Trade and Tourism, a portfolio he held before losing his seat in the 2018 election.

Premila Kumar will continue as the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development.

The Electoral Commission gave Faiyaz Koya the seat vacated in March by the former lands minister Ashneel Sudhaka, who was sacked over allegations of sexual harassment.

Jone Usamate has picked up the lands and mineral resources portfolio and continues as the Minister for Infrastructure and Meteorological Services.

In other changes, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has resumed the foreign affairs portfolio, freeing up Inia Seruiratu to pick up Rural and Maritime Development as well as Disaster Management.

Mr Seruiratu will continue to lead the Ministry of Defence, National Security and Policing.
