One dead in Ōamaru crash

One person has died following a crash on State Highway 1 just south of Ōamaru this morning.

Involving a single car, it happened at the settlement of Maheno just after 10am today.

Police say the sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

The investigation into the cause is ongoing and the road remains open.

In another crash, a person died in Waikato Hospital following a crash between a campervan and a car in Waihi this afternoon.

The collision took place at the intersection of State Highway 2 or Parry Palm Avenue - and Wrigley Street, police said.

A second person is in a serious condition in hospital.

The highway remains closed while the police examine the scene, with detours in place.

And another person died after a crash on State Highway 1 in Marlborough at around 6.20pm.

The road is closed while police examine the scene.
