The Fiji Football Assocation is expected to appoint a national futsal coach soon following confirmation the position will be funded by the local Sports Commission.
The FFA Chief executive Mohammed Yusuf says he is happy the commission, an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, would pay for the new coach.
Mr Yusuf said the next steps could now be taken.
He said the position had been shortlisted to five applicants, all from Europe, and would be announced sometime next week.
"By 21, 22, [of January] we'll be able to appoint the new national coach who will need to start working immediately in view of the Nations Cup preparation and all that."
The first assignment for the newly-appointed futsal coach will be preparing for the Tri-Nations home series with Tahiti and Solomon Islands in March.
