KiwiRail says there needs to be better education about train safety, after schoolboys played chicken with a freight train in Oamaru.

The train driver reported boys from Waitaki Boys High were playing chicken with his train around 8:30am on Wednesday.
KiwiRail spokesperson Aaron Templeton said the driver was concerned because he had been involved in accidents in the area before.
Mr Templeton said the number of people killed by trains was already high enough without people playing chicken.
He said KiwiRail had contacted the school, which said students have been spoken to about the incident, and messages about train safety have been reinforced.
