Three dead in separate road crashes across the country

Three people have died in crashes on New Zealand roads on Monday.

The crashes occurred in Whakamārama, near Tauranga, Southland's Otapiri and Auckland's Dairy Flat.

Police said they were notified of the single-vehicle crash in Whakamārama about 10.55am.

The collision happened on State Highway 2 at Turner Road, and the person died at the scene.

At 3pm, police were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Otapiri Gorge Road in Otapiri.

One person died at the scene.

The road remained closed with diversions in place, and motorists were asked to avoid the area and expect delays.

Just 90 minutes later, police in Auckland were notified of a two-vehicle collision on the Northern Motorway at Dairy Flat.

One person died at the scene.

The serious crash unit will be investigating the crashes.
