Gunman sought after shooting at shopping centre

08:07 am on 29 April 2012

A gunman who shot two people at the Robina shopping centre in south-east Queensland on Saturday, is still at large.

Shoppers ran for cover when two shots were fired just before 2pm (AEST).

Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson has confirmed one of the wounded, a man, had links to an outlaw motorcycle gang. The other, a woman, was an innocent bystander.

Witnesses saw a muscular man of Pacific Islander appearance with a tattooed neck holding a silver handgun.

He walked up to the man and shot him in the right bicep. The woman was shot in her pelvis.

Both are now in a stable condition at Gold Coast hospital.

The ABC reports there was pandemonium in the busy centre as Saturday shoppers ran for cover.

The shooting was the latest in a series of attacks across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Businesses owned by the Bandidos and the Hells Angels were targeted earlier this week and shots were fired into a clubhouse of the Gypsy Jokers at Everton Hills.

Police say they have had little co-operation from the gangs. On Friday, Queensland Police Minister Jack Dempsey issued a warning that the violence will not be tolerated.
