The Tuvalu government is encouraging people to fish offshore rather than around the coastal areas.
The CEO of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Nikolasi Apinelu, said the coastal fisheries were dwindling as the population increases.
Mr Apinelu said they were offering local fishermen incentives and tools to fish further out to sea.
"That's why we came up with all these Fish Aggregating Device programmes. Just to provide easy access for fishermen to divert from coastal fishing to off shore fishing. That programme is still ongoing and at the same time we very much look forward for donors to help us," Nikolasi Apinelu said.
