Fiji's Women's Rights Movement has welcomed the Prime Minister's commitment to work towards gender balance in national decision-making.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, spoke of the importance of tackling domestic violence and to improve the status of women in the country.

The executive director of the Women's Rights Movement, Tara Chetty, welcomed the comments, saying she looks forward to seeing his strong statements reflected further in government policy and practice.

Ms Chetty says she looks forward to working with the government to put Mr Bainimarama's call for gender-balance in national decision making into policy and practice.
