Green MP Eugenie Sage is leaving Parliament at next year's election.
Sage was first elected in 2011 and was conservation minister and associate environment minister in the Labour-led coalition government from 2017 to 2020.
In a social media post, Sage said while it has been an enormous privilege to be a Green MP, she will not contest the 2023 election. She is ranked sixth on the Green Party list.
"What continues to energise and inspire me is the vision for change and the commitment and determination of individuals and community organisations, iwi and hapū outside Parliament," she wrote.
"Part of being an MP is to take this vision and identify how we can best reform the law and government policies, programmes and spending to do better for people and planet."
She said those seeking to represent the Green Party at the election are tremendously talented.
