Police need help to ID body

15:54 pm on 2 January 2014

Police are examining a man's fingerprints to try to identify him after his body was found on a bush walk in the Coromandel.

The Caucasian man is described as being aged in his mid-30s to mid-40s and was found by trampers in the Puketui Valley just after midday on Wednesday.

A plea for people to come forward if they know of somebody who is missing has so far failed to shed any light on who the man is.

Police say they may have to use a forensic dentist if checks on his fingerprints are unsuccessful. The priority is identifying him and getting in contact with his family.

It has not been revealed how the man died, but police say nothing at this stage indicates that his death was suspicious.
