A 34-year-old man in New Caledonia has been given a jail sentence for threatening a bus driver with a rifle in suburban Noumea last week.
The incident, during which he fired his gun without causing physical harm, prompted the bus company Carsud to suspend its services in protest.
A day after the man was arrested, the criminal court in New Caledonia gave him a jail sentence of 18 months in prison of which six months are suspended.
He has also been banned from owning a firearm for 10 years.
The man, who had no previous record, apologised for his actions.
