A 68-year-old woman missing since last night in Plimmerton, north of Wellington, has been found safe.
The police said Elizabeth Loughran had been found safe at the top of a hill and taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
Police, coastguard and a rescue helicopter were looking for Ms Loughran after she went missing from Plimmerton Boating Club last night.
Police sergeant Ants Harmer described Ms Loughran, who has Alzheimer's, as a determined and strong person for surviving the night in the bush.
He said is was a fantastic result to have found her quickly.
"We had one of our search teams up on a high point, and they've been able to locate Lizzy.
"She's obviously had a fall of some description and so we've contacted ambulance straight away."
