A Te Awamutu man police say tried to strangle an officer has been granted bail in the Hamilton District Court.
Alexsandra Here-Kaea is charged with aggravated wounding, unlawfully taking a vehicle and escaping police custody.
Police allege the 22-year-old wrapped the officer's radio cord around his neck twice and attempted to strangle him.
The officer, who suffered minor injuries, managed to pepper-spray his attacker.
The accused has been granted bail, but with a 24-hour curfew to his home in Te Awamutu, and is also not allowed to consume alcohol or take drugs.
The man will next appear in court on 30 August.
