Principals see Novopay improvement

15:36 pm on 3 April 2013

A Timaru principal says the government has made notable improvements to the Novopay payroll system.

Teachers get their first pay of the new financial year on Wednesday.

The minister responsible for Novopay, Steven Joyce, has warned that changes to KiwiSaver and student loan repayment rates could create new errors this pay round.

But Wayne Facer of Beaconsfield School says he is not aware of any new problems yet and some errors from previous pay cycles have been fixed.

He attributes the improvements to a staff increase at Novopay.

The deputy principal of Epsom Girls Grammar in Auckland, Fiona Cottam, also says some of the problems have been fixed.

She says one of her staff who had been on maternity leave has just been paid for the first time this year.

Ms Cottam says she will not know if any errors have occurred in KiwiSaver or student loan payments until staff check their payslips.
