Criminal charges wanted by Pike relatives

08:03 am on 5 April 2012

At least two of the families of those who died in the Pike River mine disaster want to see criminal charges laid now that the Royal Commission hearings are over.

A police spokesperson says it was always envisaged an announcement on charges would be made once the hearings were over but is unable to say exactly when this would be.

The mother of Stuart Mudge, Carol Rose, says whatever the Royal Commission decides, criminal charges are a must, so that somebody is held accountable for her son's death.

Her sentiments are shared by the wife of Milton Osborne, Anna Osborne, who says those responsible for ensuring her husband was safe have ducked for cover and must now be made to pay.
