Fiji warned about possible terror attack

12:46 pm on 22 November 2002

Fiji has been warned to brace itself for a possible terror attack.

The Daily Post says the warning has been delivered by the Australian High Commissioner, Susan Boyd, who says the Canberra government has already started tying up loose ends after receiving warning of a terrorist attack in Australia.

Ms Boyd says should Australia be attacked, countries such as Fiji in which Australia plays an important role and which houses a considerable number of Australians, could fall victim to similar attacks.

She says Australians in Fiji have been told to keep calm and in touch with the latest developments in Australia.

She says the Australian High Commission in Suva already has a rigid security system but this is being reviewed in the light of the latest threats.
