There are three surprise omissions from the Silver Ferns squad for netball's world champs in Sydney in August.

Shooter Catherine Latu and midcourters Joline Henry and Liana Leota have been dropped.

The Silver Ferns have lost their last nine matches against Australia with a particularly poor performance at year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

There's one new cap in the squad, 20-year-old Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic shooter Malia Paseka, who was a standout performer in the New Zealand under-21 team which won the World Youth Netball Championship in Scotland in 2013.

The Silver Ferns captain Casey Kopua has been included having recovered from a serious knee injury in October, while senior players Leana de Bruin, Laura Langman and Maria Tutaia have also secured their places.

The Silver Ferns have Tests against Fiji and South Africa in the lead-up to the World Cup.
