Officers have said they want to speak to 23-year-old Bodi McKee.

Police described Bodi McKee as Māori, 183cm tall, of medium build with tattoos on his left shoulder and left forearm.

Any sightings of Mr McKee should be reported to police immediately on 111.

The man was shot in the stomach about 7am in a house on Winsford Street and armed police spent yesterday patrolling the street.

Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum said two men had had a brief argument in the driveway of the property before the 32-year-old victim was shot.

Despite attempts by paramedics to save him, he died.

The other man walked into the house to say sorry to the people inside, before leaving the scene, Mr Lendrum said.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said police were frequently at the house where the shooting happened.

"I don't let my kids walk that street ... Our street normally is a good street, she said.

"I just can't trust my kids to walk to that shop ... then come home safely."

Another neighbour said lots of cars came and went from the house.
