Cyclone Oma on track to Vanuatu

A tropical cyclone has formed in the Coral Sea and it is moving east towards Vanuatu.

Cyclone Oma, which is a slow moving Category 1 storm, is about to reach the country's biggest island, Espiritu Santo.

It is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 system and forecast to be about 500 kilometres from Port Vila late today.

Northern Vanuatu can expect strong to gale force winds, heavy seas and heavy rain over the next few days.
