American Samoa governor calls on leaders to help with troubled students

13:35 pm on 1 November 2010

American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, has called on village and church leaders to step up as leaders and help families struggling with troubled students.

The governor says that many years ago that development in the community was successful because of the strong involvement and authority of village leaders and councils.

However in recent years, Togiola says, he has not heard many reports of solid involvement and intervention of village leaders reaching out to families in an effort to assist and bring peace.

He says there is a need for church and village leaders to help stem problems involving students and village youth.
