Scooter rider dies after incident in central Auckland

Lime Scooters has confirmed a man who died in Auckland was riding one of their e-scooters.

Police and four ambulances were called to Fanshawe Street, near Nelson Street, in the central city shortly before 10pm last night.

A 59-year-old man died at the scene.

Police said the circumstances of the sudden death were unclear, although his death was not thought to be suspicious.

"We are devastated to learn of this tragic incident in Auckland overnight, and our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends during this extremely difficult time," Lime public affairs manager Lauren Mentjox said.

"We have been in contact with local authorities and continue to assist however possible."

The case has been referred to the Coroner and police are asking for witnesses.
