The United States government says it will extend free access to Associated Press news content in the Pacific for the next two years.

The free access began last year.

The US Embassy in Suva said, in a statement, that it's supporting Pacific journalism and promoting access to information by making this AP content free.

Ambassador Joseph Cella called it "an excellent and timely opportunity for news outlets across the Pacific."

The Embassy said the initiative is part of a host of activities by the US Government to support a free press, foster transparency, and promote the spread of accurate information.
