Better than expected weather conditions have today helped the dozens of fire-fighters battling to control a blaze that has burned in the Far North for three weeks.
Fire and Emergency incident controller Nigel Dravitzki said 64 fire-fighters had been in the field at Kaimaumau today.
Expected strong winds hadn't eventuated, which had helped ease pressure on containment lines.
The wildfire, which has burned through more than 2,400 hectares, started on December 18 and has twice forced the evacuation of Kaimaumau, a coastal town north of Kaitaia.
