Two homes have been evacuated as a large grass fire burns near Mahia Peninsula in northern Hawke's Bay.

Firefighters were called to YMCA Road, close to a campground, just after 3.30pm.
Eight trucks and three helicopters are at the scene.
The fire is near a forest plantation.
