No access under Avondale Bridge

13:20 pm on 15 August 2013

A section of the Avon river in Christchurch will be closed to river traffic for two weeks as earthquake repairs continue.

The Avondale Bridge will be closed from Monday, 19 August, as contractors build a shingle platform in the river to work from.

This will require a digger to move across the river for a short period of time, replacing the shingle as it goes, and for sheet piles around the bridge's abutments to be removed.

The crew is aiming to clear a route for canoeists and others as quickly as possible.
