Two grass fires in the Luggate and Tarras basins in Otago are now under control.
The crews of 11 fire service and Otago Rural Fire Authority appliances and tankers were needed to control them.
Otago's principal rural fire officer Stephanie Rotarangi said two fire crews would stay on site overnight to monitor and damp down any flare-ups.
About 15 hectares was burning earlier today though no structures were threatened at that point.
The authority said it was monitoring the situation carefully.
