A petition has been launched to support a planned Titanic-themed casino resort on Tinian in the Northern Marianas.
The online petition comes after the Tinian Ocean View Resort and Casino project stalled because of a lack of permits arising from the nature of the establishment and the definition of port-related activity.
The Hong Kong-based company Bridge Investment Group LLC plans to invest $US130 million to set up the complex.
Its chief executive officer Philip Mendiola-Long said the company was looking to get Tinian out of its current economic slump by providing a reliable means of transportation to and from Tinian with its development of a ferry service.
The company has spent over $US3 million on the relocation and construction of the ferry facilities at the Port of Tinian and a total of over $US10 million dollars since the start of construction in August 2014.
It employs about 80 people and its monthly payroll is $US160,000.
