Hearing date for Banks' judicial review

07:36 am on 2 November 2013

A date has been set for a judicial review of a court's decision to commit Act Party leader John Banks to trial.

An Auckland District Court judge ruled last month that the prosecution could proceed and Mr Banks must stand trial on a charge of making a false electoral return.

The prosecution says donations for Mr Banks' 2010 Auckland mayoral bid from casino operator SkyCity and internet businessman Kim Dotcom were signed off as anonymous, when Mr Banks knew who had made them.

Mr Banks has challenged the decision and a hearing will be held on 27 November.

The Solicitor-General has taken over the private prosecution from retired accountant Graham McCready.
