The territory's primary schools have been shut all week by the industrial dispute but the public broadcaster says a tentative settlement has been reached locally.

Under the terms of the settlement, long-term sick leave has been granted but the arrangement is now pending approval by the French education ministry.

If the ministry agrees, it will be financially liable to cover the sick leave.

The strike hasn't applied to the territory's secondary schools.
