Nearly 8000 people were tested for the coronavirus in Auckland yesterday, smashing the previous record.
In a statement, the city's DHBs said 7800 people were tested yesterday. The previous record was 6407 on 24 June.
Demand was still high today, the DHBs said.
Nine pop-up testing clinics have opened in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 15 - as well as many GP clinics.
By 2pm, the 15 community testing centres in Auckland had swabbed 2921 people.
In addition, general practices and urgent care clinics also reported a busy morning.
The central city Eden Terrace clinic is being moved to Eden Park to avoid the traffic hold ups it has caused.
