Trains in Wellington are now all running again following an earlier signal fault.

A KiwiRail spokesperson says there was a signals outage across the lower North Island and the South Island shortly before 5.30pm this evening.

The signal outage lasted approximately 30 minutes.

The spokesperson said it caused some disruption to services, but everything is now operating again.

KiwiRail is investigating the cause of the outage.

At one station, passengers waiting for bus replacements were told to expect at least a half hour delay.
